WHAT TO DO IN GARFAGNANA




LUCCA 1:30 A.M

The capital of the namesake province, the city is situated near the Serchio River. The Renaissance city walls, which entirely surround the city, can be traveled on foot or by bicycle. Inside the city you can admire monuments ,ancient palaces and some towers ,such as the Guinigi Tower.

La Spezia and the 5 lands 1:10

From La Spezia going westward one can admire all the beauty of these places. Starting from the Gulf of Poets and Portovenere , passing Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza until Monterosso the jagged eastern Ligurian coast creates breathtaking views and landscapes. Starting from the first village of the 5 terre , namely Riomaggiore, walks, beaches food and drink can brighten your day.

Pisa 1:40

Known worldwide for its leaning tower, Pisa can be reached either by car or train. Piazza dei miracoli in addition to housing the leaning tower ,is also home to the Baptistery and the Camposanto. The G. Galilei makes Pisa a very important city for Tuscan tourism.

LUNIGIANA



A territory that straddles Liguria and Tuscany, Lunigiana takes its name from the lands of Luni. It stretches from the coast of Marinella di Sarzana to the Apennine ridge. Its history as a land of transit meant that Lunigiana was enriched with fortresses and castles.

Descending from the Foce dei Carpinelli located a few minutes from Agriturismo Cilla we can encounter the Tower of Casola in Lunigiana, The Castle of Gragnola that guards the road leading to the valley of Equi Terme famous for its sulphurous waters. The Brunella Fortress in Aulla,the castle of Bagnone, the castle of Filattiera the suggestive Pieve di Sorano that dates back to the year 1148, or even the Castle of Terrarossa, we can find them along the road that leads to Pontremoli, a pretty town that hosts the Cstello del Piagnario.


Fivizzano where we find the Verrucola Fortress is the last large town we find on the road leading from Lunigiana to Emilia through the Cerreto Pass ,a point of interest as a starting point for walks along the Apennine ridge and a ski destination.

GARFAGNANA



Garfagnana stretches from the middle valley of Lucca to the Carpinelli Pass, bordering therefore with Lunigiana, wedged between the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Apuan Alps .

Starting from the Cilla farmhouse a few kilometers away we find Mount Argegna,a panoramic point of great depth as from this plateau it is possible to admire Lunigiana, the Apuan Alps, Garfgnana and the entire Apennine ridge. Castelnuovo di Garfagnana( 30 minutes) with its Ariostesca cave is the commercial center of the valley and allows to reach Versilia or Emilia Romagna through the Passo delle Radici or Barga (50 minutes) located just after the Garfagnana border is a pleasant town .

Garfagnana offers breathtaking scenery and its many lakes are almost all swimmable. Excursions along the Apennine and Apuan trails allow you to reach as high as 2,000 meters above sea level. Rafting , Mountaibike, equestrian trekking are just some of the sports that can be practiced in Garfagnana.
